How Many Jelly Beans?

To help us learn about big numbers and estimation we read this neat story:

We then had a to have a guess how many jelly beans were in Mrs Ray's jar.....it was tricky!

On Thursday we counted ALL the jelly beans in the jar and it took us ages! There ended up being 664 Jelly beans in the jar and we were all amazed that there were that many!

Well done to Sofija's Mum Rachel, who got the closest guess of 580.  Our closest child guess was Lucas with 504.

Lots of 6 year Olds!

Happy Birthday to our latest 6 year olds!

Mini Astronauts

On Friday we used pastel to colour in our own astronaut suits.  We used a lot of patience when colouring as it took along time.  We could only use BRIGHT colours for the suit.  We think we look ready to go into space.

Statistics .....What is your favourite planet?

This week we have been learning about statistics in maths.  We began with learning about tally marks and why we use surveys in real life.  We then took our own survey using tally marks.  We had to ask each other "What is your favourite planet?"  We really enjoyed this part.

Then we used this information to create a class picture graph.  We found this an easy way to see our information quickly.  We were then able to talk about what we found out and what stood out to us.

Next we are going to learn about different types of graphs.....

Here is Jack and Oliver sharing their models of how the planets orbit around the sun:
